49: Halfway

To celebrate the blog's halfway point, here are some of my favorite things recently on the web:

Freud + Proust: Regarding elevators and pianos.

Goodbye, Google: "Yes, it’s true that a team at Google couldn’t decide between two blues, so they’re testing 41 shades between each blue to see which one performs better. I had a recent debate over whether a border should be 3, 4 or 5 pixels wide, and was asked to prove my case."

Red Delicious: I am a sucker for a good apple story. This one comes via Martha Bayne.

Chicago Rarities Orchard Project: I'm not worried about them putting me out of a job yet, in part because it would be nice to think that by 2014 I could have a job that does not involve selling fruit. Also, more fruit is good.

Broken Picture Telephone: Spiderman camel eating american flag --> picture --> turtle dressed as spiderman hates America, devours the flag.

Obsession Times Voice: "I think all of the best nonfiction that has ever been made comes from the result of someone who can’t stop thinking about a certain topic — a very specific aspect of a certain topic in some cases. And second, they got really good at figuring out what they had to say about it."

So, for example, if you really like the sound of your own voice, you could just blog about that and get really good at it and it would be fascinating. Right?

Right.

Which reminds me of a story. Which is that a friend told me the other day that his favorite post on this blog was No. 100, which is a fairly transparent way of saying that it has all been downhill since I hit post the first time. Which I don't necessarily disagree with. Which is fine.
