28: Twitter

From an email I wrote to a fruit blog reader last summer after he suggested I sign up on Twitter:

Hey - Thanks for getting in touch. The thing about ... twitter is that ... most of the time i dont even have a chance to get my phone out at work let alone tap out twitters. I've seen blogs that incorporate twitter and it is a good idea - just probably not workable in this case.

I offer that as a lead-in, naturally, to the fact that I'll be on twitter this season (@fruitslinger).

My correspondent also suggested I try posting ads on the site, to which I replied:

The story on the lack of advertising is that the audience isn't big enough to make it worth it. It would generate so little money that it's not worth junking up the site. I mean we're talking pennies.

Trust me I'm ready to try to squeeze money out of it at the first possible opportunity but it's just not there yet. Time's running out too -- only a couple of months left in the growing season.

Anywsy, thanks again for getting in touch -- I need all the help I can get. Hope you enjoy the blog.

"Anywsy?" What was I thinking? Oh! No, sorry. That's actually not what I was getting at. The point was yes, we are talking pennies; that much is still true. But I have to tell myself I tried. So I'm probably putting ads in the RSS feed and doing some (classy!) Amazon referral links on the blog itself.
