72: Unemployment

Unemployment statistics do not include people who have given up looking for work and are thus not counted as job-seekers.

They also do not include people who have gone from executive office holder to executive office cleaner. Those people still have jobs.

This New York Times article is part of a steady stream of stories that read like they could almost be about me. Almost. Of course, unlike the people in this article, I voluntarily left my last full-time job — with its sweet, sweet salary and warm, downy benefits — in 2005.

I don't regret doing that, even today. It's almost immaterial, to be honest. The job I left doesn't exist anymore. I would have been laid off by now anyway.

To the world economy, I would just like to say: Fuck you very much.
